Operating across the East Midlands, Loughborough-based company Scope Construction has built a reputation for delivering high-quality schemes and developments through a collaborative approach.
The company was formed in 2019, initially focusing on high-end residential and commercial projects, before diversifying into the public and charity sectors as it grew.
Looking to take the firm to the next level, Scope Construction turned to the fully-funded LBAS Scale-Up Programme, which is delivered by business support experts Exemplas.

Our Scale-Up Manager, Mark Taft, began by getting under the skin of the business and applying an industry-leading diagnostic tool. This comprehensive, research-backed diagnostic was used to precisely identify areas within the business where improvements could be made and tangible gains achieved.
As a result, a business improvement project was initiated to partner with a reputable external consultancy to thoroughly review and enhance Scope Construction’s recruitment and retention strategy. This collaboration focused on several key objectives to strengthen workforce capabilities and improve employee satisfaction and retention.
Key components of the project included:
· Review and definition of job roles: Clearly defining and standardising all job roles across the company to ensure alignment with business goals and industry best practices. This provided clarity in expectations and supported career progression paths.
· Development of a capability matrix: Creating a detailed map of the skills, competencies, and experience required across all roles. This helped identify skills gaps, training needs, and succession planning opportunities.
· Establishment of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Developing meaningful and measurable KPIs related to recruitment and retention, enabling Scope Construction to monitor performance, evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives, and drive continuous improvement.
